Washington’s Army arrived at Valley Forge as an ill-fed, ragged and indifferently trained organization. They left six months later with vastly improved training and logistical support as a result of the combined efforts of General Washington and his staff.

To learn more about the newly organized Army during the 1777-1778 encampment at Valley Forge and to see a Muster Roll of the men who served there, click here.

Copies of the Continental Army, a printed version of the encampment muster roll, produced by The Friends of Valley Forge Park, is available for purchase in the Park’s Encampment Store.

1,622 officers entered Valley Forge in December 1777.  1,308 remained after June 1778. While most of the reduction was a result of resignations, some left for other reasons.
